2011 Annual Chamber Banquet & Awards
March 12, 2011

A Good Time Was Had By All!bar d wranglers - 1

The Aztec Chamber of Commerce, under the direction of its Board and its Executive Director, Christa Rommé, held its 2010 Annual Banquet on March 11 at the Aztec Community Center. Among the 100+ attendees were those honored with awards: Josh Ray (City of Aztec) for Citizen of the Year; Craig Edwards (Koogler Middle School) for Educator of the Year; and the Aztec Well Servicing “Family” as Business of the Year. The three, as well as those nominated for the awards (Leanne Hathcock, Jonathan Acrey, Zoe Daney, and Aztec Urgent Care) were congratulated for their contributions to the quality of life in Aztec.

In addition to the annual awards, the Chamber Board instituted a new special award. The Board developed the award for exceptional service in the area of community development because there are so many residents who are worthy of receiving praise year after year. The 2010 recipient of this award, Christa Rommé noted, “has dedicated huge amounts of her time to the community in various capacities, is proactive in all that she does, and balances her different positions expertly, keeping a high level of matt camacho shawn fellabauminvolvement and integrity for many years.”  For these reason, the Chamber Board voted to give this award to Sally Burbridge, and to name the award in future years the Sally Burbridge Award for Exceptional Service to Community Development.

The theme of the night was “Building on Our Past,” and the theme was supported by ongoing slide shows and wall decorations of photographic prints from the collections of the Aztec Museum Association. The Bar-D Wranglers presented their inimitable music show.  Food was provided by the Aztec’s soon-to-be-opened Red Barn Bar-B-Que Restaurant, and was served by the cheerful and accomplished Aztec High School Key Club members, earning funds for charity. The Hidden Valley Golf Course ran a cash bar, the Silent Auction kept hopeful winners circulating to make sure that no one else had entered a higher bid, and the socializing was at an all-time high!
